Adah Kanter was born in 1988 in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2012, she received her BFA in Craft/Material Studies and her BFA in Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts. Her art-making involves many handmade fiber traditions like sewing, quilting, embroidery, and weaving, coupled with personal reflection as to why each of the processes transforms into a meditative practice for her. She also creates with clay and can’t resist adding patterns reminiscent of those found in textiles to the surfaces of her hand built and wheel thrown works.
Adah currently lives and works in Richmond, Virginia. She spent the past decade teaching art to K-12 students and now spends her days caring for her twins while finding time to create. She looks forward to returning to teaching at local community studios as she loves to provide folks with a safe space to explore their own ideas and discover new mediums and processes.
