Adah Kanter was born in 1988 in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2012, she received her BFA in Craft/Material Studies and her BFA in Art Education at Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of the Arts. Her art-making involves many handmade fiber traditions like sewing, quilting, and weaving, coupled with personal reflection as to why each of the processes transforms into a meditative process for her.
Adah currently lives and works in Richmond, Virginia. She teaches middle school art with a process over product philosophy and frequently uses her own art-making practice and creative research to navigate what she teaches her students next. Her main focus while teaching is to provide them with a safe space to explore their own ideas and discover new mediums and processes.
